Traversing throughout time and space was a simple matter on knowing where and when they wanted to go and simply exerting yourself to go that specific place and time. Places and times further off from where they started would require a great deal more energy, but the two practitioners of this unique magic trick had gotten to the point where they could zip back and forth a complete century within just five seconds of concentration. No doubts, no worries, no problems

And yet Francesca seemed to be the most nervous wreck in all of history.

She and her partner in traveling/magic girl adventures/college work, Donnalie, had come in the middle of the Italian Renaissance to start a little date together. A small café on the corner of the Arno River served them apple fritters, veal roulade and some Vermicelli. Fran proposed that they would first have dinner in this time, pop forward to drive in the 1930s countryside of England, watch the original print of Casablanca in theaters in 1942, and crash on the couch back in their college apartment. Now only if she could make it in one piece

Donnie could see through Fran’s weak façade of confidence. After all, this was their first date following the two’s confession of love during a massive time vortex explosion. Donnie would have told Fran to relax and just be herself instead of this feeble cool wannabe…but she found this Fran to be too adorable! She couldn’t let this go away!”

“Behold my fair laDY!” Fran’s voice suddenly and randomly decided to enunciate the last part of the word ‘lady’ as Fran presented the basket of breadrolls. “Snacks!”

“Ah, nothing beats authentic recipes, huh?” Donnie remarked as she chewed into roll. “Time travel never fails to impress me.”

“YEAH!” Fran suddenly shouted, getting the attention of the more conservative people of the time and earning a series of scorching scorned looks. “Yeah.” Fran repeated with less enthusiasm. “G-good thing we got the ppower, huh? And we don’t abuse like those fictional idiots!”

“Right.” Donnie laughed it off, before coming up with a wicked joke to further tease Fran. “Though maybe we should skip out on paying!” She whispered. “Any change we make doesn’t affect the grand scheme of things, so we’re free to do as we please without the consequences of returning home to our natural time and finding out that the world is ruled by penguins!” Fran jumped back in her seat a few inches out of fear. “Come on, we proved it following the death of that sorcerer! Let’s dine-n-dash!”

“You sure?” Fran coughed out. “There might be…”

“Let’s go! To 1935 England!” Donnie announced as she took Fran’s hand as they jumped ahead five-hundred years and moved north-west to a lonely countryside on the eve of the second World War. Their clothes changed into rich English flapper-esque dresses, with the nervous Fran examining the hem of the skirt. Donnie squeed as she turned and saw a Auburn Supercharged 851 waiting for them in the gravel driveway of the mansion in the countryside. “I’ll drive.” Donnie told, not wanting Fran to take the wheel while she was in a panicked state. Fran obeyed and hopped into the shotgun.

The countryside had no wildlife or even other people driving about to disturb them or accidently to run into, so the two were able to drive around like reckless fools as long as they wanted. The car had plenty of petrol, and the family was overseas visiting relatives in America to take them out of the depression. Donnie whooped and hollered as they jumped over hills and rushed around corners. Fran attempted to have fun, but her squeals were all from pain from bouncing about and out of fear.

“Having fun?” Donnie asked as she spun the wheel counter-clockwise hard to avoid a tree.

“YEAH!” Fran shouted with great gusto. “YEAH!” She repeated as she bounced up into the air. “YEAH!” She said again, once more trying to be the brave date and failing.

After returning the car, they traveled once more a few more years ahead to see the movie in New York. Their clothes updated with the times, reflecting the support-the-soldiers mood of the early 1940s. Fran managed to pull herself together and conjure some tickets to get themselves inside to watch the newsreel before the show started. A few older people in nicer suits stared at the two ladies obviously in a romantic relationship, so Donnie waved her hands to make them focus on something else.

The two enjoyed themselves throughout the entire movie. When it came time for Rick to lead Illsa onto the plane to join her husband Laszlo, Fran decided to lean in and kiss Donnie on the cheek when Bogart would do the same. She nervously leaned over the side of her theatre chair with both hands over to Donnie and puckered up. This ended up, obviously, working against her as she leaned all the way over and fell into Donnie’s lap. At least the dark theatre kept them hidden.

“Comfy?” Donnie asked with a little giggle.

Fran shut her trap for the rest of the little adventure. The credits rolled, the people departed, and the two magical girls whisked off back to their normal time and in front of their dorm with their normal clothes. The two silently walked back to their shared dorm, with Donnie holding Fran’s hand the whole way. Through the door, and down onto the couch they went.

“Good night.” Donnie whispered as she gave a long smack on the cheek. Fran eeped, but sighed as she considered the date to be a complete success.
